(a)    The International Mechanical Code (2012 Edition, Second Printing) published by the International Code Council (I.C.C.) is expressly referred to and adopted as the mechanical code of the city, and by this reference and adoption made a part of this chapter as if fully set forth herein, save and except those specific deletions, amendments, and additions made in subsection (b) of this section. One copy of said International Mechanical Code shall be filed and kept in the office of the city clerk.

(b)    The following provisions designated “deletion” are deleted and excepted from the International Mechanical Code chapters adopted in subsection (a) of this section. The following provisions designated “addition” are added to the International Mechanical Code chapters adopted in subsection (a) of this section. The following provisions designated “amendment” are amendments to the International Mechanical Code chapters adopted in subsection (a) of this section.

(1)    Amendments to Cross-References. The I.M.C. is amended by deleting all the references to the “IECC Electrical Code or NFPA 70” and replacing them with “National Electrical Code, 2011 Edition” as adopted under Chapter 19.12 KMC, by deleting all the references to the “International Fuel Gas Code” and all references to the “International Plumbing Code” and replacing them with “Uniform Plumbing Code, 2012 Edition” as adopted under Chapter 19.14 KMC, and by deleting all the references to the “International Property Maintenance Code” and replacing them with “Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings” as adopted under Chapter 19.28 KMC.

(2)    Amendment. Chapter 3, Section 308.5 (Labeled assemblies) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows:

308.5 Labeled assemblies. The allowable clearance reduction shall be based on an approved reduced clearance protective assembly that is labeled in accordance with UL 1618 and the manufacturer’s specifications.

(3)    Amendment. Chapter 4, Section 403.3 (Outdoor airflow rate) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows:

403.3 Outdoor airflow rate. Ventilation systems must be designed to have the capacity to supply the minimum outdoor airflow rate required in Table 403.3 (Minimum Ventilation Rate) based on the occupancy of the space and occupant load parameter as stated herein, or in accordance with the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 62 (2010 Edition) as adopted by reference.

(4)    Amendment. Chapter 5, Section 514.1 (General) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows:

514.1 General. Energy recovery ventilation system must be installed according to the manufacturer’s instruction and specification.

(5)    Amendment. Chapter 8, Section 804.1 (Direct-vent terminations) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows:

804.1 Direct-vent terminations. Combustion vents for direct vent chambers are at least three foot high or provide snowdrift prevention.

(6)    Addition. Chapter 9, Section 907.1 (General) of the I.M.C. is amended by adding a new second sentence to read as follows:

Commercial standard UL 2790 may be accepted as an alternative to UL 791 and residential standard UL 508 and UL 698 may not be acceptable as an alternative to UL 791.

(7)    Amendment. Chapter 10, Section 1001.1 (Scope) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows:

1001.1 Scope. This chapter governs the installation, alteration, and repair of boilers, water heaters, and pressure vessels not subject to the provisions of the department of labor and workforce development under AS 18.60.180 – 18.60.395.

(8)    Deletion and Amendment. Chapter 14 (Solar systems) of the I.M.C. is amended by deleting the body of the chapter and adding a new Section 1401 to read as follows:

1401.1 General. Solar energy equipment and appliances must be installed in compliance with the Solar Energy Code as adopted by 8 AAC 63.010, as amended as of February 3, 2011.

(9)    Amendment and Adoption. Chapter 15 (Referenced standards) of the I.M.C. is amended to read as follows and the standards are adopted by reference:

N.F.P.A. 13-2012 Installation of Sprinkler System.

N.F.P.A 72-2012 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.

N.F.P.A. 96-2011 Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of commercial Cooking Operations.
