10.04.010 Generally.

The words and phrases set out in this chapter when used in this title shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter. (Ord. 16 § 1(a): prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.020 Applicability of Vehicle Code definitions.

Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined in this chapter, but are now defined in the Vehicle Code of this state, such definitions are incorporated in this chapter and shall be deemed to apply to such words and phrases used in this title as though set forth in this chapter in full. 10.04.030 Alley.

“Alley” means any unnamed street less than twenty-five feet in width between property lines. (Ord. 16 § 2: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.040 Loading zone.

“Loading zone” means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Ord. 16 § 3: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.050 Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named in this title, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this city. (Ord. 16 § 4: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.060 Official traffic-control devices.

“Official traffic-control devices” means all signs, signals, markings and devices not inconsistent with this title placed or erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding traffic. (Ord. 16 § 5: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.070 Official traffic signals.

“Official traffic signals” means any devices, whether manually, electrically or mechanically operated, by which traffic is alternately directed to stop and proceed and which is erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction. (Ord. 16 § 6: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.080 Park.

“Park” means to stand or leave standing any vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Ord. 16 § 7: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.090 Parkway.

“Parkway” means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk. (Ord. 16 § 8: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.100 Passenger loading zone.

“Passenger loading zone” means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (Ord. 16 § 9: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.110 Pedestrian.

“Pedestrian” means any person afoot. (Ord. 16 § 10, 1949: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.120 Person.

“Person” means every natural person, firm, copartnership, association or corporation. (Ord. 16 § 11, 1949: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.130 Police officer.

“Police officer” means every officer of the police department of this city. (Ord. 16 § 12, 1949: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.140 Stop.

“Stop,” when required, means complete cessation of movement. (Ord. 16 § 13(a), 1949: prior code § 10300 (part))

10.04.150 Stop or stand.

“Stop or stand,” when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic-control device. 10.04.160 Traffic.

“Traffic” means pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, and other conveyances with single or together while using any street for purposes of travel. (Ord. 16 § 24, 1949: prior code § 10300 (part))
