1.08.010 Adoption of official seal.

Pursuant to the authority so to do as contemplated by law, the council approves and adopts as and for the corporate seal of the city the following seal, with lettering, form, arrangement and designs as set forth and shown thereon and therein, as follows:

1.08.020 Abandonment of former seals.

All forms of corporate seals adopted, established, or used by or for the city prior to October 26, 1954, shall be and the same are abandoned and nullified for use. The only form of corporate seal for use by or for the city after October 26, 1954, shall be the form of seal set forth in Section 1.08.010. (Prior code § 2-6.02)

1.08.030 Facsimiles unlawful.

It is unlawful for any person to make or use the seal of the city, or any cut, facsimile, or reproduction of such seal, or make or use any seal or any design which is an imitation of such seal, or of the design thereof, or which may be mistaken for the seal of the city, or the design thereof, for any purpose other than for city purposes or for the purpose of any board, officer, or department thereof. 1.08.040 Custody.

The city clerk shall have the official custody of the official seal of the city. (Prior code § 2-6.04)

1.08.050 Permit required to display seal privately.

It is unlawful for any person to display or place, either temporarily or permanently, the official seal of the city on any privately owned motor vehicle or other privately owned vehicle unless by express written permit first had and obtained from the council so to do. In the event any such permit is so granted by the council, it is unlawful for any person to place or display such seal in any manner or at any time contrary to or in violation of the provisions of such permit. 1.08.060 Display of seal on public property.

Until further order of the council, the city clerk shall designate the particular motor vehicles or other vehicles or items of property belonging to the city on or in connection with which replicas of the official seal of the city shall be used, and when so designated, the officers or employees having immediate charge or control of such vehicles or equipment so designated shall obtain such replicas from the city clerk and affix the same thereto and maintain the same thereon until the further order of the city clerk. 1.08.070 Use of city seal or letterhead in advertising prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person, as said term is defined in Section 1.04.020 of this code, to use the city’s seal or any facsimile of the city letterhead in the advertising of any product, in support of or in opposition to any person seeking an elected office or of any ballot measure or for any purpose whatsoever other than in the official business of the city, its officers and employees.
