9.44.010 Disposal of unclaimed bicycles and toys.

Any unclaimed bicycles and toys which have been in the possession of the Gardena police department for at least sixty days and have been cleared for disposal by the police department may be turned over to a probation officer, to the welfare department of any county, or to any charitable or nonprofit organization that meets the criteria set forth in Section 9.44.020, for use in any program or activity designed to prevent juvenile delinquency. 9.44.020 Criteria for charitable or nonprofit organizations.

Bicycles and toys may be turned over to any charitable or nonprofit organization in accordance with Section 9.44.010 of this chapter, provided that the organization meets the following criteria:

A. The organization is a charitable or nonprofit organization;

B. The organization is authorized under its articles of incorporation to participate in a program or activity designed to prevent juvenile delinquency; and

C. The organization is exempt from income taxation under federal or state law, or both.

The organization shall present proof of the above three criteria to the police department or shall submit a certification signed by an officer of the organization under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct. (Ord. 1521 § 1 (part), 1997)
