1.04.010 ADOPTION OF CITY CODE:

That certain document entitled, "Gonzales city code", together with the secondary codes therein adopted by reference, save and except those portions of the secondary codes as are deleted or modified by the provisions of the Gonzales city code, is hereby adopted as a comprehensive ordinance code for the city, pursuant to the provisions of California Government Code sections 50022.1 through 50022.8 and 50022.10. Each and all of the provisions, terms and penalties of this code, on file in the office of the city clerk, are hereby referred to, adopted, incorporated herein, and hereby made a part hereof as though fully set forth in this chapter. 1.04.020 TITLE; CITATION; REFERENCE:

This code shall be known as the GONZALES CITY CODE and it shall be sufficient to refer to this code as the Gonzales city code in any prosecution for the violation of any provision thereof or in any proceeding at law or equity. It shall also be sufficient to designate any ordinance adding to, amending, correcting or repealing all or any part or portion thereof as an addition to, amendment to, correction of, or repeal of the Gonzales city code. Further, reference may be had to the titles, chapters, sections and subsections of the Gonzales city code and such reference shall apply to that numbered title, chapter, section or subsection as it appears in this code. 1.04.030 CODIFICATION AUTHORITY:

This code consists of all of the regulatory and penal ordinances and certain of the administrative ordinances of the city, codified pursuant to California Government Code sections 50022.1 through 50022.10. (1972 Code § 1.01.030)

1.04.040 REFERENCES TO AMENDMENTS, SPECIFIC ORDINANCES:

A. Amendments: Whenever a reference is made to this code as the "Gonzales city code" or to any portion thereof, or to any ordinance of the city, the reference shall apply to all amendments, corrections and additions heretofore, now, or hereafter made. (1972 Code § 1.01.040)

B. Specific Ordinances: The provisions of this code shall not in any manner affect matters of record which refer to or are otherwise connected with ordinances which are therein specifically designated by number or otherwise and which are included within the code, but such reference shall be construed to apply to the corresponding provisions contained within this code. (1972 Code § 1.01.060)

1.04.050 CODE ALTERATIONS:

It shall be deemed unlawful for any person to alter, change, replace or deface in any way any section or any page of this city code in such a manner that the meaning of any phrase or order may be changed or omitted. City code books, while in actual possession of officials and other interested persons, shall be and remain the property of the city and shall be returned to the office of the city clerk when directed so to do by order of the city council.
