CLEANING OF STREETS AND SIDEWALKS

12.12.010 Required.

All persons owning or occupying real property in the city fronting on any street or alley are required to keep the property, and the roadway, gutter and sidewalk in front of the property, and the space between the centerline of the street or alley and the property line of the property, free from weeds, filth, garbage, rubbish or dirt, other than the natural soil of the same, and to the satisfaction of the superintendent of streets, and are required to keep the sidewalk and the space between the curbline and the property line in good and sufficient repair, and free from obstructions dangerous to life or limb, and are required to keep all shade trees along the sidewalk and outside the property line irrigated and trimmed, and are required to replace damaged sidewalks where necessary. 12.12.020 Violation – Remedies.

Whenever it appears that any portion of this chapter is being violated, it shall be the duty of the superintendent of streets to notify the owner or occupant of the property of such violation, and upon the failure of such owner or occupant to thereupon remedy such violation by promptly performing such work as is necessary to meet the standards of this chapter within 10 days of such notice. It shall be the duty of the superintendent of streets to perform such work as is necessary for the property to be in conformance with the standards of this chapter at the expense of such owner or occupant, and such expense shall be added to the taxes on the property, and collected with the other taxes and by the same methods, or may be recovered by suit, brought by the city to recover such expense. 12.12.030 Violation – Penalty.

Any violation of this chapter is a misdemeanor and shall be punished as provided by HMC 1.12.010. (Ord. 336 § 4, 1973).
