12-24.010 Permit required—Minimum standards.

No person shall erect, construct, place or maintain any signboard, billboard, sign, advertisement in, over or on any public highway of the city, unless a permit to do so has been obtained in writing from the City Engineer, on such conditions as the City Engineer may determine to insure the safety of persons traveling upon such highway, on the following minimum standards:

A.    Single-Faced Signs. Single-faced signs, placed flat against and supported by the building, shall not extend over the right-of-way if less than eight feet above the right-of-way grade; at a height of eight feet or more, such a sign shall not overhang the right-of-way more than twelve (12) inches.

B.    Double-Faced Signs. Double-faced signs, supported by the building, shall not extend further over the right-of-way than allowed under the following ratio:

C.    Extension Limit. In no event shall any sign extend further than the face of any curb in front of any building.

D.    Other Permits May Be Required. The permit described in this section is not in lieu of a building permit or any other permit required by any other applicable law.
