DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS.

18-12.1 Grounds.

All persons holding positions in the classified service shall be subject to suspension without pay, demotion, reduction in compensation or dismissal from office or employment for misconduct, insubordination, incompetency, inefficiency, failure to perform duties, falsifying an oath or failure to observe the rules of the department or the Board, or for other just cause. (Code 1972 §24-57)

18-12.2 Right of Appointing, Authority of Removal, Demotion, Etc., Subject Only to Appeal.

Persons in whom is vested Appointing Authority shall have the right of removal, demotion, reduction in compensation and suspension of employees, subject only to the employee’s right of appeal as provided by Section 18-14 to subsection 18-14.5. Predisciplinary safeguards to be accorded employees shall be prescribed in the personnel rules and regulations. (Code 1972 §24-59; Ord. #1128, §1)

18-12.3 Appointing Authority Required to File Reasons for Action with Employee and Personnel Office.

The Appointing Authority, who suspends without pay, demotes, reduces in compensation or removes from office or employment any employee, must provide the affected employee and the Personnel Officer with a written statement specifying the disciplinary action and the reasons therefor. (Code 1972 §24-60; Ord. #1128, §2)
