5.20.010 Card games prohibited in business places.

A.    Except as provided in MMC 5.20.020, it is unlawful for any person, persons, firm or corporation to engage in, carry on, maintain or operate any game of cards at any time in any place of business in the city, to which place of business members of the public are admitted for any purpose whatsoever.

B.    Except as provided in MMC 5.20.020, it is unlawful for any person, persons, firm or corporation, who may engage in, carry on, maintain or operate any place of business in the city to suffer or permit any game of cards to be played at any time in any place of business to which members of the public are admitted for any purpose whatever. 5.20.020 Exceptions.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to any bona fide meeting place or recreational room or rooms, the use of which is restricted to, and which is exclusively used by, members of regularly constituted, bona fide nonprofit fraternal associations, religious, civic, patriotic, or veterans’ associations, societies, clubs, and organizations and the duly elected and bona fide members thereof; provided, however, that any place in this section mentioned and the facilities for any game of cards, which may be conducted or permitted therein, pursuant to this section, may be inspected by any police officer, when such premises are used for recreational purposes.
