5.36.010 Drive yourself vehicle defined.

A “drive yourself vehicle” is a vehicle or truck which the owner rents or leases to other persons, or allows or permits the operation or use by another person or firm which directs and controls the operation and use of and furnishes the driver for the vehicle or truck, or who pays a separate consideration for the services of a driver. [1937 Code § 528.1.]

5.36.020 Permit – Required.

It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to operate any vehicle or truck in the city which is a drive yourself vehicle, or rent it to another for such purpose, or to have it on hand and available to rent for such purpose, unless there has been issued a permit to the owner of the vehicle therefor by the city. [1937 Code § 528.2.]

5.36.030 Permit – Application.

To obtain an owner’s permit for use of a drive yourself vehicle or truck, the owner must file an application with the chief of police which shall include the following:

A. A complete list of each and every vehicle or truck of the owner so used or available for such use, with the identification and license number thereof;

B. A certificate of insurance from a licensed insurer in the state in full force and effect insuring the owner and any operator thereof against all liability to third persons for damage to property in the amount of $5,000 and for personal injuries in the amount of $5,000 to any one person and $10,000 to any two or more persons injured in any one set of circumstances;

C. Payment of a license fee to the city of $15.00 for each of the vehicles for the current calendar year. [1937 Code § 528.3.]

5.36.040 Business license and permit issuance.

The city manager shall cause to be issued a business license to the owner thereof simultaneously with the permits herein provided, when and if the application meets all of the conditions provided in this chapter. [1937 Code § 528.4.]

5.36.050 Identification signs.

The city shall provide individual signs identifying each such vehicle or truck for which a permit is issued which shall be prominently displayed on each vehicle and which may not be transferred to any other vehicle. [1937 Code § 528.5.]

5.36.060 Additional vehicles – Licensing.

If the owner of any business license or permit uses additional vehicles or trucks, he shall file an additional application and pay an additional license of $15.00 for the calendar year for each one. It shall be permissible to change one or more vehicles during the year without an additional license if the owner removes one vehicle from such uses and substitutes another and makes the proper record thereof.
