15.12.010 Adopted.

The house and building numbering system of the city that has heretofore been established and is now in effect in the city is ratified and confirmed. (Prior code § 12.16.010)

15.12.020 Dividing lines designated.

For the purposes of such numbering system First Street and Cottonwood Street in this city shall be the dividing line from which all numbers shall be numbered in a consecutive pattern north and south from such streets. San Jacinto Avenue in this city shall be the dividing line from which all numbers shall be numbered in a consecutive pattern east and west from such street. All numbers on the south and west sides of a street shall be even; all numbers on the north and east side of a street shall be odd. (Prior code § 12.16.020)

15.12.030 Promulgation of additional standards.

The city council may be resolution from time to time establish additional standards in conformance with the standards herein provided to guide the building inspector in establishing and reassigning house and building numbers. (Prior code § 12.16.030)

15.12.040 Assignment of numbers—Authority.

The authority to assign house and building numbers in accordance with the terms of this chapter and resolutions adopted pursuant hereto shall be and is vested in the building inspector of the city, who shall have the authority to appoint deputies, who shall have the authority to assign such numbers by him and such numbers shall be final until changed by the building inspector. 15.12.050 Reassignment of numbers—Authority.

The building inspector shall have authority under the provisions of this chapter to assign new numbers to any house, building or property to which numbers have been previously assigned, it being the purpose and intent of this section to assign numbers to all houses and buildings in the city in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. 15.12.060 Maps on file.

It is the duty of the building inspector of the city to keep on file one or more maps or documents showing the current assignment of house and building numbers in the city. (Prior code § 12.16.060)

15.12.070 Assignment of numbers—Subdivisions.

It is the duty of the building inspector of the city to assign numbers to houses and buildings not located on subdivided land in the city, which assigned numbers shall be as closely in accordance with the numbering system of the city as in the judgment of the building inspector he or she is then able to determine, and upon the subdivision of such property, the building inspector shall assign, if necessary, such new numbers as shall be in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. 15.12.080 Assignment of numbers—Notice to owners.

It shall be the duty of the building inspector of the city to notify in person or by United States mail the owner or person in possession of any property at which a number where the house or building located thereon shall not have been previously assigned, or the owner or person in possession of any property to which the building inspector shall assign a new number under the provisions of this chapter advising such owner or person in possession of the number assigned. 15.12.090 Placement and maintenance of numbers.

It is the duty of the owner or person in possession of any property within sixty (60) days after such notice shall have been given by the building inspector of the assignment of the number, to place and thereafter continuously maintain the number so assigned for such property, as hereinbefore set forth; provided, that each figure of such number so assigned shall be at least two inches in height and of corresponding width, and such number shall be placed on the house or building located on such property in such position as to make such number plainly visible from the public street, avenue, court or alley upon which property fronts, and any number other than the official number as assigned under the provisions of this chapter, if any such exists on or about such property shall be removed from such property by the owner or person in possession thereof within the time provided for the placing of the assigned number as provided in this chapter. 15.12.100 Application forms for new numbers.

It shall be the duty of the building inspector to provide, duplicate application forms upon which application shall be made for such new official number or numbers, the original copy of such application to be delivered to the applicant and the duplicate application retained as a part of the official records of the building inspector. Such application in duplicate shall be signed both by the applicant and the building inspector. (Prior code § 12.16.100)

15.12.110 Violation—Penalty.

Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
