2.40.010 Established.

There is established a public library in and for the City, to be managed and maintained in the manner provided by and in accordance with the provisions of Title 1, Division 1, Part 11, Chapter 5 of the Education Code of the State. [Ord. 968 § 2, 1980; Ord. 161 § 1, 1906.]

2.40.020 Members – Appointments – Duties.

The public library hereby established shall be managed by a Board of Library Trustees, consisting of five members appointed by the City Council for terms of three years. City Council appointments to the Board shall be governed by the provisions set forth in Chapter 2.58 SMC. The Board shall perform the duties imposed and enact the powers conferred by the provisions of the above-referenced act of the Legislature, and the act amendatory thereof, and shall perform such duties as may hereinafter be imposed by law, and exercise such powers as may hereafter be conferred by law upon them. 2.40.030 Board of Library Trustees – Residency requirement.

All members of the Board of Library Trustees, appointed pursuant to the provisions of this chapter, shall be residents of the City. [Ord. 758 § 1, 1970.]
