4.80.010 Definitions.

Except where the context requires otherwise, the definitions given in this section shall govern the construction of this chapter.

A. “Peddler” is a person who sells tangible commodities from house to house and who makes delivery at the time sale.

B. “Solicitor” is a person who takes orders for future deliveries, or for tangible services, or who solicits subscriptions from house to house.

C. “Private residential property” is any home, duplex unit, apartment unit, mobile home or other dwelling unit designed for use as a residence by an individual or family group and includes the yard and all appurtenances. (Ord. 295 § 1; Ord. 343 § 1. Code 1997 § 18-21)

4.80.020 Disturbance of occupant prohibited where no peddlers or solicitors sign posted.

No peddler or solicitor shall, nor shall any business employing or contracting with a peddler or solicitor allow any peddler or solicitor to, in any way disturb or contact any occupant of private residential property where a sign has been posted on such property containing the words “NO PEDDLERS OR SOLICITORS ALLOWED” or words of similar import and meaning. Violations of this chapter shall constitute a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months imprisonment and a $500.00 fine. Violations shall be subject to any and all civil remedies provided by law, including injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction.
