CHAPTER 17. PROPERTY

ARTICLE 1. DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY

1-17-1000 DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY: SHERIFF:

When unclaimed property is turned over to the Sheriff, in accordance with section 2080.1 of the Civil Code of the State of California, the Sheriff shall store and dispose of said property in accordance with sections 2080.1, 2080.2, 2080.3 and 2080.5 of said Civil Code. The Sheriff shall fix and determine the charges to be paid under section 2080.1 of said Civil Code in amounts which reasonably approximate the actual costs to the County of such storage and care and he shall pay all charges collected into the County Treasury. Unclaimed property shall be returned to the owner of such property in accordance with sections 2080.1, 2080.2, and 2080.3 of said Civil Code and shall be delivered to the person who found or saved the property in accordance with section 2080.3 of said Civil Code.

1-17-1005 DELIVERY TO PURCHASING AGENT:

Any property which remains unclaimed after the provisions of State law referred to in section 1-17-1000 of this Article have been complied with, other than bicycles and toys, shall be delivered to the County Purchasing Agent and the Purchasing Agent shall dispose of the same by auction or by other means authorized by sections 2080.3 and 2080.4 of the Civil Code of the State of California. Any unclaimed money delivered to the Purchasing Agent pursuant to this section shall be deposited in the County General Fund. Any unclaimed property delivered to the Purchasing Agent which he determines to be worthless may be destroyed rather than being offered for sale.

1-17-1010 EXCEPTION: BICYCLES AND TOYS: DELIVERY TO PROBATION OFFICER:

Pursuant to section 217 of the Welfare and Institutions Code of the State of California, when any bicycle or toy has not been claimed by its owner and has not been returned to the person who found it pursuant to the procedure referred to in section 1-17-1000 of this Article, the Sheriff shall turn over the unclaimed bicycle or toy to the Probation Officer of Tulare County, rather than delivering it to the Purchasing Agent pursuant to section 1-17-1005 of this Article. The bicycles and toys received by the Probation Officer pursuant to this section shall by used by him for programs of activities designed to prevent juvenile delinquency.
