15.20.252.010 Adoption of the California Building Code.

Adopt the California Building Code, 2022 Edition, Volumes 1 and 2, based on the 2021 International Building Code, as published by the International Code Council (ICC), as adopted and amended by the California Building Standards Commission, the Department of Housing and Community Development, and other agencies listed in Chapter 1, Division I of the CBC, where the City is the enforcing authority or the authority has been delegated to the City by these agencies in the California Building Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 2, including the adoption of Chapter 31, Section 3109, Appendix C (Group U – Agricultural Buildings) and Appendix J (Grading).

15.20.252.020 Amendments to the California Building Code.

A. Section 202 of Chapter 2 – Definitions. Add the following to Section 202 of the CBC:

Bedroom: A room that meets the minimum dimension, area, and height requirements for a habitable room as specified in California Building Code section 1208 or California Residential Building Code sections R304 and R305 that has an adjoining area or space that may be utilized as a closet whether or not the room is actually utilized for sleeping purposes.

B. Section 713.1 of Chapter 7 is amended by adding the following sentence to the end of Section 713.1:

All factory-built chimneys installed in a chase or shaft in or adjacent to all occupancies of Type V-A and Type V-B construction shall be protected to the top of chase and fully enclosed by not less than one layer of 5/8'' Type ‘X’ gypsum wallboard installed between the combustible framing and the factory-built chimney per the current Building Standards, and the latest edition of the Fire Resistance Design Manual for Gypsum Systems.

C. Section 903.2 – Where required. Add the following to section 903.2 of the CBC:

Or as amended in Title 15 of the City of Vacaville Municipal Code.

D. Section 1507.1 of Chapter 15 is amended by adding the following sentences to the end of Section 1507.1:

Roof coverings shall be applied in accordance with the applicable provisions of Chapter 15 of the California Building Code, 2022 Edition, and the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Wood shingles, wood shakes, or other wood materials applied as roof covering shall be fire rated as “Class B” or better, treated in accordance with the current Building Standards. All wood shingle or wood shake re-roofing exceeding 25% of the total roof area will have a minimum “Class B” rating.
