16.20.010 Public utility lines.

Public utility distribution and transmission lines shall be permitted in all districts without the necessity of first obtaining a use permit. (Ord. 95-03 (part): prior code § 8-3.601)

16.20.020 Underground utilities in new subdivision.

A.    All new subdivisions (residential and nonresidential) shall have utility distribution and transmission facilities, including but not limited to, electrical, communication and cable television lines place underground within the subdivision and feeder lines within one hundred (100) feet of the exterior subdivision boundaries shall also be underground except as follows:

1.    Poles solely supporting street lights;

2.    Electrical transmission lines rated at sixty (60) K.V. capacity or more;

3.    Surface mounted transformers; amplifiers and communication feeder/distribution cross-connection facilities shall be permitted in low profile cabinets approved by the director of public works. Terminal boxes (splice boxes and individual services) shall be flush mounted at grade and may not be surface mounted in pedestal cabinets. Primary splice boxes and primary vaults shall be underground unless otherwise approved by the director of public works. The intent of this subdivision is to have non-electric appurtenant facilities located below grade while permitting electrical facilities which need cooling and can be shorted by water to be in low profile surface mounted cabinets which are durable and attractive approved by the director of public works.

4.    Communication service pedestals as established within the city’s design standards and approved by the director of public works.

B.    The subdivider shall be responsible for compliance with the provisions of this section, including furnishing all street lighting facilities required to provide street lighting in accordance with city standards, shall make the necessary arrangements with the utility companies, and shall submit satisfactory evidence thereof prior to the acceptance and approval of the final map. 16.20.030 Responsibility for compliance.

The subdivider or property owner as the case may be, is responsible for complying with the requirements of this chapter and shall make the necessary arrangements with the utility companies involved for the installation of such facilities. (Ord. 95-03 (part): prior code § 8-3.603)
