GUN CLUBS AND GUN RANGES

5-56-010 Establishment.

The council may in its discretion permit the establishment of gun clubs upon the following terms and conditions:

A.    The gun club seeking permission to operate as such must be a bona fide gun club organized for that purpose and no other purpose whatsoever.

B.    Complete plans must be filed and approved by the council setting forth the site, together with all improvements thereon, and such safety precautions as may be recommended by nationally recognized gun clubs and the city.

C.    An insurance policy saving the city harmless from any and all accidents and claims arising out of the operation and use of said gun club must be filed with the city in an amount of not less than three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00).

D.    No one who is not a member of the gun club shall be allowed to discharge a firearm on the site designated by the city, and members shall only be permitted to discharge firearms under the terms and conditions set forth by the chief of police.

E.    All shooting done on the range shall be confined to the use of pistols and revolvers and no alcohol in any form shall be allowed upon the premises.

F.    The city shall have the right, at all times to inspect the premises to observe the conduct of members of the club, and to revoke immediately the permit granted hereunder for a violation or failure to comply with any of the aforesaid rules and regulations or for any additional rules and regulations that may be set forth in writing by the chief of police.

G.    Members of the gun club shall have the right to fire pistols and revolvers at targets located on the licensed gun club range. (Prior code § 5-52-1)

5-56-011 Gun range.

A. Definition. A “shooting range” or “firing range” is a specialized facility designed for firearms practice. (Ord. 3316 § 2 (part), 2015)

5-56-020 License fee.

The annual license fee for a gun club/gun range shall be five thousand dollars ($5,000.00). (Ord. 3316 § 2 (part), 2015: Prior code § 5-52-2)
