3.26.010 ESTABLISHED.

The Department of Economic Development of the City of Southport, Indiana (the “Department”), controlled by a commission of three members to be known as the “City of Southport Economic Development Commission” (the “Commission”), is hereby created and established. 3.26.020 QUALIFICATIONS.

The three members shall be either residents of the City of Southport for one year preceding their appointment or business owners in the City of Southport for five years preceding their appointment. (Ord. 14-10-05 § 2, passed 10-20-2014)

3.26.030 APPOINTMENT.

The three members of the Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor of the City (the “Mayor”), with one member selected by the Mayor, one member nominated by the City-County Council of the City of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana (the “City-County Council”), and one member nominated by the Common Council. 3.26.040 TERMS.

The Economic Development Commissioners shall take office upon their appointment, and their terms run from February 1 after their original appointment, for a period of:

(A) Three years, if selected by the city executive;

(B) Two years, if nominated by the city fiscal body; and

(C) One year, if nominated by the county fiscal body.

3.26.050 SUCCESSORS.

At the expiration of the respective terms of each of the original Economic Development Commissioners, their respective successors shall be selected and nominated, before the expiration of the term, in the same manner as the original commissioner, and each succeeding commissioner shall serve for a term of four years. A commissioner shall hold over after the expiration of his term until his successor is appointed and has qualified.
