10.10.010 Board responsibility.

The board shall have placed and maintained traffic-control signs, signals, and other devices when and as required by law to make effective the provisions of this code. [Ord. 1985-04 § 9. Prior code Title 7, Ch. 2, Art. 2, § 1]

10.10.020 Standards.

All traffic-control signs, signals and devices shall conform to the manual and specifications approved by [Indiana Department of Transportation]. All signs and signals required hereunder for a particular purpose shall so far as practicable be uniform as to type and location throughout the town. All traffic-control devices so erected and not inconsistent with the provisions of state law or this code shall be official traffic-control devices. [Amended during 2015 reformat; Ord. 1985-04 § 9. 10.10.030 Obedience to official traffic-control devices.

The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any official traffic-control device placed in accordance with the traffic ordinances of this town, unless otherwise directed by a police officer. [Ord. 1985-04 § 9. Prior code Title 7, Ch. 2, Art. 2, § 3]

10.10.040 Exceptions.

No provision of this code for which signs are required by law shall be enforced against any alleged violator if at the time and place of the alleged violation an official sign is not in proper position and sufficiently legible to be seen by an ordinarily observant person. 10.10.050 Automatic signals.

Whenever traffic is controlled by traffic-control signals exhibiting the word “GO,” “CAUTION” or “STOP” or exhibiting different colored lights successively, the colors of lights’ meanings shall be as specified in the Indiana Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on Highways, and shall apply to all drivers and pedestrians. 10.10.060 Sign damage or removal.

No person shall without lawful authority attempt to or in fact alter, deface, injure, knock down, or remove any official traffic-control device or sign, or any part thereof. [Ord. 1985-04 § 9. Prior code Title 7, Ch. 2, Art. 2, § 6]
