ARTICLE 4. STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION OF EXPLOSIVES

7-401. EXPLOSIVES NOT STORED IN CITY.

It shall be unlawful for any person to store or keep any dynamite, nitroglycerin, giant powder or other explosive other than gunpowder in any storeroom, wareroom building or on any premises within the city limits. (Code 1987, 5-201)

7-402. GUNPOWDER STORAGE.

It shall be unlawful for any person to store or keep any explosives in excess of one pound of gunpowder in any storeroom, wareroom, building or on any premises within the city; provided, that not more than five pounds of gunpowder may be kept in closed metal canisters in a store or wareroom away from artificial heat or light; provided further, that nor more than 50 pounds of gunpowder may be kept if stored in a magazine made of fireproof material or of wood covered with sheet iron and mounted on wheels and kept securely locked except when necessarily opened for use by authorized person, and not more than 1,000 blasting caps or detonators may be stored in a similar, but separate magazine. Any magazine shall not be located within 20 feet of a furnace, stove or open fire, nor located in any building with flammable substances. Such magazines shall be conspicuously placarded in red letters at least four inches high "Explosives," which placard shall be located within the building, on the floor nearest the street level and within 10 feet of the street entrance.

7-403. PERMIT TO KEEP GUNPOWDER.

Any person who shall sell or store gunpowder shall obtain a permit from the city clerk. The fire marshal shall inspect the place where same is kept before a permit is issued. The dealer shall fully disclose the places where gunpowder is kept, both in the day and nighttime on his or her premises. (Code 1987, 5-203; Code 2003)

7-404. NITROGLYCERIN.

Any person who shall transport or convey through or along the streets of the city, any liquid nitroglycerin shall be guilty of a violation of this code. (Code 1987, 5-204)
