2.90.010 Title.

This chapter shall be known as the Riverton City tree board, and may be so cited and pleaded. [Ord. 4-17-01-1 § 2 (Exh. B). Code 1997 § 8-4-005.]

2.90.020 Purpose.

The purpose of the Riverton City tree board is to provide a basis for the professional management of public trees, and to provide for the enduring viability of this important resource for the city, its residents, and visitors. [Ord. 4-17-01-1 § 2 (Exh. B). Code 1997 § 8-4-010.]

2.90.030 Establishment.

There shall be created a tree board to be known and designated as the Riverton City tree board. It shall be composed of five voting members who shall be citizens of Riverton City. All said members shall be appointed by the mayor with approval of the council. All members of the board shall serve without compensation. The members appointed by the mayor shall be appointed as follows: two for two years and three for three years, and serve until their successors are duly appointed and approved by the city council. Successors to those members appointed by the mayor shall thereafter be appointed for terms of three years. In the event that a vacancy shall occur during the term of any member, his or her successor shall be appointed for the unexpired portion of the term.

Wherever possible, the board shall be made of a combination of professionals in tree related fields and citizens interested in trees. A member of the parks department shall be encouraged to participate or serve on the board. [Ord. 4-17-01-1 § 2 (Exh. B). Code 1997 § 8-4-015.]

2.90.040 Organization.

Within a reasonable time after the appointment of said tree board and the approval of the members thereof, upon call of the mayor, said board shall meet and organize by the election of a chairman and keep minutes if its meetings. The said board shall provide for the adoption of rules and procedures and for the holding of regular and special meetings as said board shall deem advisable and necessary in order to perform the duties set forth. 2.90.050 Duties.

The duties of the said Riverton City tree board shall be as follows:

(1) To study the problems and determine the needs of the city concerning trees within corporate limits and to recommend to the city council appropriate legislation to provide for the management and enduring viability of city trees.

(2) To annually update and/or study the Riverton street tree master plan.

(3) To recommend to the proper authority the type and kind of trees to be planted upon such municipal streets or parts of municipal streets or in parks as designated.

(4) To assist the properly constituted officials of Riverton City as well as the city council and citizens, in the dissemination of news and information regarding the selection, planting, and maintenance of trees within the corporate limits, whether the same be on private or public property.

(5) To provide regular and special meetings at which the subject of trees as they relate to the city may be discussed by the members of the board, officers and personnel of the city and its several divisions, and all others interested in the street tree master plan.

(6) To plan and organize Arbor Day activities.

(7) To ensure the city’s standing as a Tree City USA. [Ord. 4-17-01-1 § 2 (Exh. B). Code 1997 § 8-4-025.]
