2.40.010 Membership in Relief and Pension Act—Fee paid by city.

The city shall pay the required amount for each member of the volunteer fire department to be enrolled under the Volunteer Firefighters’ and Reserve Officers’ Relief and Pensions Act as described in Chapter 41.24 RCW, as the same exists now or may hereafter be amended. (Ord. 885 § 1 (part), 2016)

2.40.020 Officers—Volunteers.

A. The department shall consist of a chief and one assistant chief.

B. The chief and assistant chief appointments shall be made by the mayor subject to confirmation by the city council and the individuals serving as chief and assistant chief shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor.

C. The chief shall report to the mayor or in the absence or conflict of the mayor to the mayor pro tem and shall make written and verbal reports to the city council as requested by the city council.

D. The chief shall serve as the chief of the volunteer fire department and all volunteer members of the department shall report to the chief and shall serve under the direction of the chief. The assistant chief shall serve in the absence of the chief.

E. The chief and assistant chief shall conduct periodic drills applicable to fire protection and the use of equipment and first aid as determined necessary by the chief and assistant chief.

F. The department member volunteers shall meet the minimum qualifications to serve as member volunteers as are established from time to time by the chief. These minimum qualifications shall be those generally recognized as the industry standard minimum qualifications.

G. Department member volunteers shall serve “at will” and are subject to dismissal by the mayor. (Ord. 885 § 1 (part), 2016)

2.40.030 Annual report to council.

The chief shall make an annual report to the city council within one month following the close of each year and the report shall include a report of the status of apparatus, equipment, and structures, as well as fire fighting experiences of the department in the previous year. 2.40.040 Compensation.

The chief and assistant chief and volunteer department members shall receive such compensation as the city council shall fix from time to time by resolution. (Ord. 885 § 1 (part), 2016)

2.40.050 Contracts or agreements for fire protection.

The city may enter into agreements for mutual aid with other fire departments or fire districts from time to time as deemed appropriate by the city council. The chief, assistant chief and volunteer members of the department shall comply with the terms of any such agreements. (Ord. 885 § 1 (part), 2016)
