A. As compensation for service to the city, the mayor shall receive a base payment of one thousand dollars per month, plus fifty dollars per city council meeting attended, including liaison meetings, on behalf of the city.

The city council has chosen to further compensate the mayor by allowing the mayor to choose on an annual basis either:

1. To receive employee health benefits for mayor and spouse paid for by the city (not including any deductibles, copayments). If this option is chosen, the mayor may elect to cover other nonspousal dependents per the health insurer rules at the mayor’s own expense.

2. Or, annually, the mayor may elect to receive the dollar equivalent of the health benefits for the mayor only, at the highest level of available health benefits. The mayor’s election shall be made before December 1st to be effective on January 1st, and the dollar amount shall be determined upon receipt of the annual cost from the city’s insurer. The mayor shall receive as compensation each month the amount equal to the monthly cost of the health insurance benefit.

The ordinance codified in this section is effective until the end of the mayor’s normal four-year term. If the mayor serving at the passage of the ordinance resigns or leaves office, the additional health benefits or dollar equivalent shall not apply to the mayor’s successor, unless the city council by motion authorizes it to apply to the mayor’s successor. (Ord. 449 § 1, 2017: Ord. 383 § 1, 2010: Ord. 366 § 1(Exh. A)(part), 2009: Ord. 3.AA §§ 1, 2, 3, 2001: Ord. 3.Y § 1, 1996: Ord. 3.Q § 1, 1991. Formerly 2.04.050)
