6.08.010 License – Application.

Before any animal license shall be granted, an application for a license must be submitted to the animal control authority. The application form shall be provided by the animal control authority, shall be uniquely numbered, and shall request such information as the animal control authority deems necessary, including proof of rabies vaccination. 6.08.020 License – Required – Dogs.

It is unlawful for any person to own any dog over the age of six months within the city unless the owner has licensed and registered the dog as required by this chapter within thirty days of acquisition by the owner. Licenses shall be issued upon payment of the fees as required by resolution of the city council, which may be revised from time to time. Licenses shall expire at the end of each calendar year.

Exceptions:

A. Dogs that have been neutered or spayed may apply for a lifetime dog license. The lifetime license shall be issued upon payment of the fees as required by resolution of the city council. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. A) (part), 2016)

6.08.030 License – Exclusions.

The licensing provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the following dogs:

A. Dogs whose owners are nonresidents temporarily within the city for three months or less;

B. Dogs who have been brought into the city for the purpose of participating in any dog show;

C. Any animal used by law enforcement, search and rescue agencies or other animals under the ownership and control of a law enforcement agency;

D. Service dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. A) (part), 2016)

6.08.040 License – Required – Cats.

Adult cats may be licensed for identification purposes by payment of fees as provided by resolution of the city council, which may be revised from time to time. Cat licenses shall be valid for the life of the animal. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. A) (part), 2016)

6.08.050 License – Issuance – Fees.

The animal control authority shall issue animal licenses upon payment of fees, submission of the license application and proof of vaccination for rabies, as required by the provisions of this chapter. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. A) (part), 2016)

6.08.060 License – Tags.

Upon issuance of a license, a metal tag with a number corresponding to the number of the application shall be furnished to the applicant. License tags shall be securely displayed on animals at all times except as the animals may be exempt from licensing requirements. Licenses are not transferable to another animal. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. 6.08.070 Violations.

Any violation of this chapter constitutes a nuisance, and is subject to the notification penalties, and appeals process as set forth in Chapter 6.24 BMC, Animal Nuisances – Abatement – Penalties. (Ord. 433 § 1 (Exh. A) (part), 2016)
