2.12.010 Office established – Appointment.

There is hereby established for the city the office of city attorney. The mayor shall appoint a duly qualified attorney-at-law to said office. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1906).

2.12.020 Duties.

It shall be the duty of the city attorney to advise the city authorities and officers in all legal matters pertaining to the business of the city. He/she shall conduct all legal proceedings and represent the city in all lawsuits filed in any court in which the city is a named party. The city attorney shall perform all such other duties as the council or mayor may direct from time to time.

The city shall contract with an attorney admitted to the practice of law in Washington State to serve as prosecuting attorney in the municipal court. The prosecutor may be, but need not be, the person appointed as city attorney. The duties of the prosecutor shall be to represent the city in prosecution of misdemeanors in municipal court, and to represent the city in prosecuting contested infractions if requested to do so by the city. 2.12.030 Compensation.

The city attorney shall be allowed a reasonable compensation for all services actually performed. (Ord. 4-91 § 3, 1991; Ord. 158 § 3, 1906).
