INTERSECTION AVOIDANCE CODE

9.27.030 Avoidance of an intersection.
9.27.010 Definitions.
The following terms shall have the following definitions for purposes of this chapter:
(1) “City street” means every public highway or street, or part thereof, located within the city limits of a city of Chelan County, except alleys.
(2) “County road” means every public highway or part thereof within Chelan County, outside the limits of cities and which has not been designated as a state highway.
(3) “Momentarily” means less than sixty seconds. (Res. 2024-88 (Exh. A), 10/14/24).
9.27.030 Avoidance of an intersection.
It shall be unlawful for any person operating a motor vehicle upon any county road or city street in Chelan County to leave the traveled portion of the county road or city street and momentarily enter a parking lot, vacant land or other private or public property for the purpose of avoiding the intersection or any traffic control device controlling the intersection, unless so directed by lawful authority. Purpose to avoid the intersection may be presumed if the person operating the motor vehicle causes the motor vehicle to reenter the county road or city street beyond the intersection without first passing through the intersection. 9.27.050 Penalty.
Any violation of this chapter shall be considered a traffic infraction. Any person violating any section of this chapter shall be guilty of having committed an infraction punishable by a penalty not exceeding the amount set forth in Infraction Rules for Courts of Limited Jurisdiction rule 6.2 for unlisted infractions, including statutory assessments, unless otherwise specified by ordinance.
