24.17.210 Abandonment.

Persons permanently abandoning a septic tank, seepage pit, cesspool, or other sewage container from service shall:

(1)    Have the septage removed by a certified pumper;

(2) Perform one (1) of the following:

(a)     Remove and dispose of sewage tanks and other components in a manner approved by the local health officer; or

(b)     Leave the sewage tanks and components in place and:

(i)     Remove or destroy the lid;

(ii)     Puncture the bottom of the container to prevent water accumulation; and

(iii)     Fill the void with soil, sand or gravel.

(3) Grade the site to the surroundings; and

(4) Submit in writing to CCPH a notification of abandonment with a written description of the actions taken to legally abandon the system with pumper receipt attached. (Sec. 22 of Ord. 2007-10-01; amended by Sec. 18 of Ord. 2021-11-05; amended by Sec. 17 of Ord. 2025-03-12)
