8.10.010 Title.

This chapter shall be known as the skier safety ordinance of Columbia County, Washington. [Ord. 90-04 § 1.]

8.10.020 Purpose.

The several purposes of this chapter are:

A. To encourage safe skiing practices for members of the general public utilizing skier recreational areas within the boundaries of the county;

B. To generally promote the public health, safety, convenience, and general welfare thereby. [Ord. 90-04 § 2.]

8.10.030 Prohibited acts.

No person shall:

A. Embark or disembark upon a ski lift except at a designated area;

B. Throw or expel any object from any tramway, ski lift, commercial skimobile, or other similar device while riding on the device;

C. Act in any manner while riding on a rope tow, wire rope tow, J-bar, T-bar, ski lift, or similar device that may interfere with the proper or safe operation of the lift or tow; and

D. Disobey any instructions posted in accordance with the provisions in Chapter 70.117 RCW et seq., or any verbal instructions by the ski area operator regarding the proper or safe use of rope tow, wire rope tow, J-bar, T-bar, ski lift or similar device unless such verbal instructions are contrary to this chapter or those rules and regulations set forth in Chapter 70.117 RCW et seq. 8.10.040 Penalty.

Any person who violates any of the provisions of CCC 8.10.030 is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by up to a $1,000 fine and/or 90 days’ confinement in jail or by both fine and confinement. [Ord. 90-04 § 4.]
