12.04.010 Naming method.

(a)    Key for naming of all streets within the city limits:

The name of C Street shall be changed to Columbia Avenue and the name of Mottet Street shall be changed to Franklin Street.

All streets running north and south shall be known as avenues, and all streets running east and west shall be known as streets.

All avenues north of Franklin Street shall bear the prefix “North,” and all avenues south of Franklin Street shall bear the prefix “South.”

All streets west of Columbia Avenue shall bear the prefix “West,” and all streets east of Columbia Avenue shall bear the prefix “East.”

All avenues west of Columbia Avenue shall be numbered first, second, third, fourth, etc.

All avenues east of Columbia Avenue shall be named in alphabetical order for cities of the state beginning with the first avenue east of Columbia Avenue and shall be named as follows: Almira Avenue, Burke Avenue, Chelan Avenue, Dayton Avenue, Ephrata Avenue, Ford Avenue, Garfield Avenue, Hanford Avenue.

All streets south of Franklin Street shall be named in alphabetical order for trees beginning with the first street south of Franklin Street and shall be named as follows: Ash Street, Birch Street, Cedar Street, Date Street, Elm Street, Fir Street, Gum Street, Hemlock Street.

All streets north of Franklin Street shall be named in alphabetical order for famous American people beginning with the first street north of Franklin Street and shall be named as follows: Adams Street, Borah Street, Clark Street, Davis Street, Edison Street, Fulton Street, Grant Street, Hoover Street.

(b)    When any additional names become necessary, they shall follow the same pattern as set forth in this section and shall be chosen by resolution of the planning commission of the city. (Ord. 189 § 1, 1957).

12.04.020 Nonconforming street names.

Specifically named streets which do not conform to the street naming pattern set forth in Section 12.04.010 of this code are as follows:

(1)    The diagonal street running northeasterly from Columbia Avenue known as John Deere Way (Davis Way) starting at its intersection with Columbia Avenue, which is immediately north of Clark Street to the city limits, shall here forthwith be an extension of North Columbia Avenue.

(2)    The section of Columbia Avenue running northerly from the intersection of the former John Deere Way (Davis Way) to the city limits shall be renamed Columbia-Industrial Avenue. (Ord. 612 § 1, 1993: Ord. 606 § 1, 1992: Ord. 189 § 2, 1957).

12.04.030 Intermediate streets.

Where there exists a street between any two streets as have been named in this chapter, the intermediate street shall carry the name of the nearest street to the parallel street of division with the addition of the word Place. (Ord. 189 § 3 (part), 1957).

12.04.040 Conformance to street and numbering map.

Any street names shall as far as possible conform to the official street and numbering map of the city filed with the city clerk and incorporated herein by reference. (Ord. 189 § 3 (part), 1957).
