2.08.010 Appointment – Designation.

(a) The mayor of the city, in order to facilitate the transaction of the business of the city, shall, upon the evening of his installation or as soon thereafter as may be convenient, appoint from among the members of the city council seven standing committees as follows:

(1) Finance;

(2) Streets, alleys and public improvements;

(3) Fire and police;

(4) Building/planning;

(5) Water, sewer and garbage;

(6) Cemetery and park;

(7) Airport;

(b) The mayor may from time to time, on motion, appoint a special committee on any matter before the city council regarding its action. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006; Ord. 109 § 1, 1905).

2.08.020 Finance committee.

It shall be the duty of the committee on finance to carefully inspect and pass upon all claims, bills and demands against the city and approve or reject in whole or in part the same and to perform such other duties as may be exacted by the mayor and city council. 2.08.030 Streets, alleys and public improvements committee.

It shall be the duty of the committee on streets and public improvements to recommend approval of the six-year transportation plan to the city council; suggest from time to time to the council any changes, alterations or repairs that in the judgment of the committee ought to be made or what improvements should be undertaken in the construction of roadways, sidewalks, crosswalks or other transportation-related structures for the use and benefit of the city or its inhabitants; and to perform any other duty imposed by the city council. 2.08.040 Fire and police committee.

The committee on fire and police shall inquire into the condition of every part of the city as to its liability to destruction by fire and as to the safety and health of its citizens. The committee shall report the result of this inquiry to the city council from time to time with such suggestions as the committee may have to offer for the betterment of the city in these regards and all matters pertaining to fire and/or law enforcement actions. It shall be the duty of the committee on fire and police to cooperate with the fire department, its chief and other officers and the chief of police or designee and its officers on all occasions of fires and law enforcement and render such assistance therein as the fire chief or chief of police may require. The committee shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be required of it by the mayor or city council. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006; Ord. 109 § 4, 1905).

2.08.050 Building and planning committee.

Matters pertaining to the construction and zoning within the city and its code enforcement shall be submitted to the committee on building and planning and it shall be the duty of this committee to determine all such matters and report the result of its investigations to the council. The committee shall work with the planning commission and perform such other duties as may from time to time be required of it by the mayor or city council. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006; Ord. 109 § 5, 1905).

2.08.060 Water, sewer, and garbage committee.

It shall be the duty of the committee on water, sewer, and garbage to carefully review, with input from the maintenance foreman, the sanitary condition of the city and in all matters pertaining thereto to cooperate with the respective county and state departments and report to the city council any suggestions the committee may think proper which are calculated to provide an adequate water supply and the proper disposal of waste with the goal to suppress disease or produce and maintain more sanitary conditions. The committee shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be required of it by the mayor or city council. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006; Ord. 109 § 6, 1905).

2.08.070 Airport committee.

It shall be the duty of the committee on airport matters to review any and all plans for construction and future planning that will take place within the airport property and report those projects to the city council. The committee shall work with the state and FAA to coordinate such plans and to perform other duties as may be required of the committee by the city council. 2.08.080 Cemetery and park committee.

It shall be the duty of the committee on cemetery and park to review any and all plans for construction and future planning that pertain to matters that will take place on cemetery and park property and the potential uses of those city-owned lands and report those projects to the city council.

The committee shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be required of it by the mayor or city council. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006).

2.08.090 Special committees.

Special committees shall perform the duties assigned them in relation to the matter referred to them and make a report thereon for the government and guidance of the city. (Ord. 974 § 2, 2006; Ord. 109 § 8, 1905. Formerly 2.08.080).
