2.20.010 Office created.

There is created and established in and for the city an office to be known and designated as water superintendent. This office will be held by the city’s maintenance superintendent unless otherwise established by the mayor and city council. (Ord. 987 § 1, 2007; Ord. 204 § 1, 1917).

2.20.020 Duties.

The duties which are imposed upon the water superintendent, and which he/she is required to perform, are as follows: to have and keep supervision over the water and sewer systems of the city and to see that everything in connection therewith is maintained according to the objects and purposes sought to be obtained by the city in their construction; to see to all faucets and reservoirs; to see that all breakages are suppressed and prevented; to allow under no circumstances the water of the city to be taken or used without payment therefor, and whenever he/she shall find water so taken, to report the same promptly to the chief of police, and the committee on water, sewer and garbage; and it shall further be his/her duty to read any and all meters within the city and report the result of said reading to the city clerk-treasurer on or before the twenty-fourth day of each month; he/she shall also have charge and supervision of the pumping plants, and shall keep the same in repair and good running order; and shall also perform such other duties as may be required of him/her by the city administrator and mayor. 2.20.030 Appointment – Removal.

It is the duty of the mayor to appoint one suitable person as water superintendent, subject to the confirmation of the city council. The appointed person is subject to the employment policies outlined in the personnel policy manual and the duties described in the job description of the maintenance superintendent. (Ord. 987 § 1, 2007; Ord. 204 § 3, 1917).

2.20.040 Oath – Bond.

The water superintendent shall qualify by taking the oath of office required to be taken by all other officers of the city, to be approved by the city council, conditioned that he/she will faithfully discharge all the duties imposed upon him by this chapter. (Ord. 987 § 1, 2007; Ord. 204 § 4, 1917).

2.20.050 Compensation.

The water superintendent shall receive as compensation for his services, from month to month, while he is engaged in the performance of services as the maintenance superintendent, such sum as the council shall provide by resolution or otherwise set in the city budget and he shall be paid by funds drawn on the water fund, at the same time as the city administrator, clerk-treasurer and chief of police.
