7.01.010 Definitions.

Unless the context clearly requires otherwise, the definitions in this section apply throughout this title, Animals and Household Pets.

(a) “Household pet” means dogs, cats, domesticated caged birds, fish, rabbits, and other small animals normally kept inside the residence.

(b) “Person” means any person, partnership, corporation, trust or association of persons.

(c) “Owner” means any person having an interest in, or having control or custody or possession of any household pet.

(d) “Caretaker” means any person having temporary control or possession of any household pet, but who is not the owner of the pet.

(e) “Leash” means a line made of plastic, nylon or other fabric, rope, chain or leather used to lead or restrain a dog.

(f) “At large” means off the premises of the owner or caretaker, unsupervised and unrestrained in behavior, and at risk of injury, or posing a public safety risk, or being a public nuisance.

(g) “Impoundment” means confinement in an animal control facility or humane society shelter.

(h) “Working days” means Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

(i) The singular shall include the plural, and the plural the singular.

(j) Whenever a power is granted to or a duty is imposed upon a public officer, the power may be exercised or the duty may be performed by a deputy of the officer or by a person authorized pursuant to the law by the officer unless this chapter expressly provides otherwise.

(k) “Chick” means a chicken that has not reached the adult stage.

(l) “Chicken” means the commonly known domestic fowl Gallus gallus domesticus, bred and raised for its eggs.

(m) “Coop” means an enclosure or cage for chickens.  This can include a wide variety of stationary or movable enclosures and can be referred to as “henhouse” or “chicken tractor.”

(n) “Rooster” means an adult male chicken.

(o) “Honey bee(s)” means any life stages of the species Apis mellifera.

(p) “Apiary” means a site where hives of bees or hives are kept or found.

(q) “Hive” means a manufactured receptacle or container prepared for the use of bees, including moveable frames, combs, and substances deposited into the hive by bees.

(r) “Colony” means a natural group of bees having a queen(s).

(s) “Rodent” means members of the order Rodentia, including rats and mice in the family muridae, and other introduced rodents, and various native species such as field mice, voles, wood rats, ground and tree squirrels.

(t) “Rodent-proofing” means any form of construction to prevent the ingress of rodents into structures and consists of construction or treatment with materials impervious to rodent gnawing of all actual or potential openings in exterior walls, ground, or first floors and roofs that may be reached by rodents from the ground, by climbing or by burrowing.  (Ord. 98-619; Ord. 15-1001 § 1).
