6.30.010 Noxious plants prohibited.

It shall be unlawful for any owner, lessee, occupant, agent or other person having the care or charge of any lot, lots or parcel of land within the city limits of the city of Edmonds to suffer or permit any noxious weeds, thistles or nettles to grow thereon or on any street, alley or highway bordering on such property, to the center thereof. [Ord. 285 § 1, 1916].

6.30.020 Inspection by director of public works – Notice to abate.

It shall be the duty of the director of public works to inspect all lots and parcels of land and the streets, alleys and highways of the city of Edmonds, and when said noxious weeds, thistles and the like are found, either on private property or on the bordering streets, alleys or highways, the director of public works shall cause notice to be given to the owner, lessee, occupant, agent or other person having care, custody and/or control of such property, or abutting property, to destroy the same; and specifying a time for such person to do so. 6.30.030 Service of notice.

Notices shall be in writing and be served by the police upon the owner, lessee, occupant, agent or other persons in charge of such property on which noxious weeds, thistles or nettles are found, in person or by leaving the same with a person of suitable age and discretion residing at the owner’s usual place of abode. If the person is a nonresident, the police shall mail a copy of the notice to his last known address, or if his address be unknown, by posting a copy of the notice on the property. 6.30.040 Refusal or failure to abate – Penalties.

If the owner, lessee, occupant, agent or other person in charge of property on which noxious weeds, thistles or nettles exist fails or refuses to destroy the same within the time set forth in the notice, said person shall be subject to the penalties and remedies for public nuisances set forth in Chapter 6.20 ECC. 6.30.050 Penalty for violations.
