2.08.010 Offices of clerk and treasurer combined--Appointment procedure.

The office of the treasurer of the city shall continue to be combined with that of the clerk of the city, and the individual holding that office shall have the title of city clerk-treasurer. The clerk-treasurer shall be appointed by the mayor. The appointment shall be subject to confirmation as provided in Section 2.12.010 of this code. The appointment shall be in writing, signed by the mayor, and filed with the office of the city clerk-treasurer.* (Ord. 1042 §1, 2003: Ord. 1029 §1, 2002: Ord. 593 §1, 1976).

2.08.020 Powers and duties.

The clerk-treasurer, in addition to all of the duties and powers set out in RCW 35.24.120, shall exercise all the powers and duties vested in and performed and required to be performed by the treasurer, as set out in RCW 35.24.130. In cases where the law requires the treasurer to sign or execute any papers or documents, it shall not be necessary for the clerk-treasurer to sign as treasurer, but shall be sufficient if the individual holding that post signs as clerk-treasurer. The clerk-treasurer shall further have the duties and responsibilities imposed by RCW 35A.21.030, 35A.42.010, and 35A.42.040. The clerk-treasurer shall exercise any and all other powers and perform any and all other duties vested or required by law, ordinance or regulation. (Ord. 593 §2, 1976).

2.08.030 Bond required.

Subsequent to the confirmation of appointment by the city council and prior to the entry into the duties of the office of clerk-treasurer, the individual appointed shall furnish an official bond, in an amount established by ordinance, conditioned on the honest and faithful performance of the clerk-treasurer’s official duties. The premium on such bond shall be paid by the city. (Ord. 593 §3, 1976).

2.08.040 Compensation.

The compensation for the office of clerk-treasurer shall be set by ordinance. (Ord. 593 §4, 1976).

2.08.050 Qualifications.

The clerk-treasurer shall have such qualifications as the mayor determines to be sufficient to competently carry out the duties imposed upon the office of city clerk-treasurer. (Ord. 593 §5, 1976).

2.08.060 Auditing duties.

The clerk-treasurer shall be the auditing officer for the city and shall perform those duties specified in RCW Ch. 42.24 for such officer. (Ord. 593 §6, 1976).
