2.20.010 Objective.

The broad objective of a comprehensive planning program is to relate, balance, and harmonize the physical, social, and economic features of the community in order to produce the greatest satisfaction out of community living and that the planning commission provide the coordination machinery to ensure that this objective be carried out. (Ord. 375 § 1, 2004).

2.20.020 Membership.

The planning commission shall consist of five (5) members, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. Members shall be residents of the town of Index and shall be registered to vote in the town of Index. (Ord. 375 § 2, 2004).

2.20.030 Regular appointive terms.

The term of office for each appointive member shall be six (6) years, starting on January 1st and ending on December 31st of the sixth year. The planning commission shall assign a number to each position and stagger terms of office so that no more than one (1) term expires in a calendar year. (Ord. 375 § 3, 2004).

2.20.040 Vacancies.

The planning commission shall inform the mayor in October of name and position number of any commission member whose term expires December 31st. The planning commission shall also inform the mayor of vacancies created by resignation, death, or unexcused absence of a member for three (3) consecutive meetings. The appointing authority shall fill vacancies for the remainder of the term. (Ord. 375 § 4, 2004).

2.20.050 No compensation and removal.

Members shall serve without compensation and may be removed, after public hearing by the mayor, with the approval of the council, for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office. (Ord. 375 § 5, 2004).

2.20.060 Planning commission chair.

The planning commission shall elect the planning commission chair annually in January. (Ord. 375 § 6, 2004).

2.20.070 Quorum.

A planning commission quorum shall consist of no less than two (2) members present for discussion only and no less than three (3) members present for the making of decisions. (Ord. 375 § 7, 2004).
