17.08.010 Purpose.

The town of Index zoning code is adopted under Chapters 35.63 and 36.70A RCW to serve the public health, safety and welfare, to provide for the orderly use of land, and to implement the policies of the comprehensive plan. This code governs all land uses and development within the town of Index including buildings, streets, utilities, open space and other physical features. The town of Index comprehensive plan is an appropriate reference and resource document for interpreting this code.

The town of Index provides for the protection of critical areas through the critical areas ordinance. The critical areas ordinance is an appropriate reference and resource document for zoning critical areas. (Ord. 370 § 2 (part), 2004).

17.08.020 Scope.

The provisions of this title shall apply to all land uses in the town of Index. The provisions of this title shall be interpreted as the minimum requirements necessary to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the public. Where the provisions of this title impose restrictions on the use of land or structures greater than those imposed by other public or private regulations, the provisions of this title shall take precedence. 17.08.030 Authority.

The Index town council shall conduct meetings and hearings and/or authorize the planning commission to conduct meetings and hearings concerning recommendations for changes to the zoning map, and on applications for rezones. All recommendations made by the public will be reviewed by the town council. The town council will make the final decisions on all recommendations. Updates to zoning map will be done yearly.
