15.150.010 Exercise of police power.

The provisions of this chapter shall be deemed an exercise of the police power of the town of La Conner, Washington, for the protection of the public economic and social welfare, health, peace and morals, and all of its provisions shall be liberally construed for the accomplishment of that purpose. 15.150.020 Definitions.

In construing this chapter, except when otherwise plainly declared or clearly apparent from context, the following definitions shall be applied:

(1) All definitions as applied in LCMC 5.25.020 shall be applied to this chapter.

(2) “Firearm” shall be defined as a weapon or device from which a projectile or projectiles may be fired by an explosive such as gunpowder. “Firearm” does not include a flare gun or other pyrotechnic visual distress signaling device, or a powder-actuated tool or other device designed solely to be used for construction purposes. 15.150.030 Locations restricted.

The property line of a business engaged in the sale of firearms that has a storefront, has hours during which it is open for business, and posts advertisements or signs observable to passersby that firearms are available for sale shall not be located or maintained within 500 feet to the nearest property line of any primary and/or secondary school grounds. [Ord. 1255 § 18, 2025.]
