10.12.010Speed Limits.

The maximum speed limit for all streets or roads within the City is established as twenty-five miles (25) per hour except where a lower or greater maximum speed limit is specifically established as provided by this Ordinance or by state law and posted with appropriate signage. (Ord. 28 § 1, 1995.)

10.12.020City Manager Authorized to Designate Speed Limits.

The City Manager or designee is authorized to designate the maximum speed limit for all streets or roads within the City where a different maximum speed limit is set than the speed limit of twenty-five (25) miles per hour, except where a lower or greater maximum speed limit is specifically established by City Ordinance or by state law. In making speed limit determinations, the City Manager or designee shall consider traffic levels of service and safety in light of relevant circumstances and applicable factors. Any streets with a different maximum speed limit than twenty-five (25) miles per hour shall be posted with appropriate signage. (Ord. 28 § 2, 1995.)

10.12.030City Manager to Maintain List of Streets With Designated Speed Limits.

The City Manager or designee shall maintain a list of City streets and roads, designating the maximum speed limits thereon as established by the City, provided that the maximum speed limit on all City streets or roads not included in the listing is twenty-five miles per hour as specified in Section 10.12.010 of this Chapter. The list shall be made available to the public during all normal City Hall business hours. (Ord. 28 § 3, 1995.)

10.12.040Traffic Control Devices.

The City Manager or designee is directed to post City streets and roads with the proper traffic-control devices to regulate the maximum speed limits as established by the City, including traffic control signs in school zones pursuant to RCW 46.61.440, and said speed limits shall become effective when posted. In addition, the City shall be authorized to use automated traffic safety cameras in school speed zones and shall clearly mark all locations where automated traffic safety cameras are in use by placing signs in locations that clearly indicate to a driver that he or she is entering a zone where traffic laws are enforced by an automated traffic safety camera. The maximum legal speed limit on any City street or road or portion thereof which is not posted with a regulatory speed limit sign is twenty-five miles per hour. 10.12.050Penalty.

A violation of the established speed limits shall be an infraction and punished in accordance with WAC 308-330. (Ord. 28 § 5, 1995.)
