APPOINTMENTS AND FORFEITURES OF OFFICE

2.14.010 Confirmation of appointments.

The mayor shall have the power of appointment and removal of the following appointive officers and employees; provided, that appointments shall be subject to confirmation by the city council according to the confirmation process established by council resolution:

A.    City administrator;

B.    Police chief;

C.    Fire chief;

D.    Community development director;

E.    Public works director;

F.    Finance director;

G.    City clerk; and

2.14.020 Forfeiture of appointment.

Whenever the provisions of state statute or city ordinance establishing a city board or commission fail to establish attendance requirements, the following rules of general application shall apply:

A.    A board or commission member who fails to attend three consecutive meetings or five meetings in any calendar year, without being excused in advance by the chair of the board or commission, shall be deemed to forfeit his/her office.

B.    The board or commission member in question shall have the ability to petition for an exemption due to extenuating circumstances, including but not limited to health.

C.    The city staff assigned to the board or commission shall notify the city administrator who shall declare the office vacant and place the matter before the city council for appointment of a new member of the board or commission.

D.    Nothing herein shall be interpreted to prohibit the board or commission member who has forfeited his or her office from reapplying. (Ord. 1363 § 2, 2014)
