12.08.010 Designated.

The numerical designation of all doorways and entrances to buildings, lots, yards and grounds fronting upon the several avenues and streets of the city are established in accordance with the following system:

A. On all streets or avenues extending in a northerly and southerly direction, numbering shall begin at First Street, with number 100, continuing consecutively by 100 numbers to the block, respectively north and south, those to the north being designated as “north” or designated by N and those to the south to be designated as “south” or by S; on all streets or avenues extending in an easterly and westerly direction, numbering shall begin at State Avenue, with number 100, continuing consecutively by 100 numbers to the block west, and being designated by “west” or by W.

B. Except as otherwise specified, 100 numbers are allotted to every block. One whole number is allotted to each 15 feet frontage in every block, and where there is more than one doorway or entrance within such 15 feet, half numbers may be used. Even numbers shall be used on the north side of the streets or ways extending in an easterly or westerly direction and on the east side of avenues or streets extending in a northerly or southerly direction. Odd numbers shall be used on the south side of the streets or avenues or ways running in an easterly or westerly direction and on the west side of avenues or streets extending in a northerly and southerly direction. 12.08.020 Number display required.

The owners or occupants of any building upon premises fronting on any street or avenue shall place the correct number of the building with the correct designation of north, south, east or west upon and over the doorway or entrance in legible figures not less than two and one-half inches in length and one and three-fourths inches in width. (Ord. 224 § 2, 1926)

12.08.030 Notice of compliance.

Upon the failure of any owner or occupant to so number and designate such building or premises within 30 days after the taking effect of the ordinance codified in this chapter, the clerk/treasurer, at such time as the council may direct and upon direction of the council, shall give written notice to the owner or occupant to place the correct number of the building with the correct designation of north or south, east or west upon or over the doorway or entrance thereto in figures as provided in this chapter. Any person failing or refusing for 30 days to comply with the notice provided by this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in a sum not exceeding $10.00.
