Sections:

1.12.010    Acceptance of donations.

1.12.010 Acceptance of donations.

The purpose of this chapter is to establish procedures for the acceptance of money or property, real or personal, donated or bequeathed to the city of Othello. The city council wishes to continue encouraging receipt of donations for the benefit of the residents of Othello.

(a)    All donations, and as used in this policy the term “donation” is all-inclusive in its ordinary meaning, shall be presented to the city council for approval and final acceptance of all or some part of the donated property by a resolution of the council.

(b)    Once any donation, whether monetary or property, is accepted by a majority of the city council, the donation will become the property of the city. It shall be added to the appropriate asset listing.

(c)    There shall be established and maintained by the finance officer a fund to be known as the “restricted donations fund,” into which shall be placed money donated to the city of Othello by persons, corporations or organizations, accepted with written terms and conditions for their use. All disbursements from the restricted donations fund will be made upon approval of the city council. Interest earned on this fund will be deposited into the general fund. All money in this fund may be allowed to accumulate from year to year until the city council determines to expend the money.

(d)    Money donated without written conditions shall be deposited into the general fund and used for any municipal purpose, as authorized by the city council. (Ord. 1019 § 1, 1998).
