10.16.010 State laws – Applicability.

The state traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as this title otherwise provides, in which event it is unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so declared in this title when signs are in place giving notice thereof. 10.16.020 State laws – Decrease of maximum limits.

When it is determined upon the basis of a traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law outside of business and residence districts is greater than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon such street or streets, the council may decrease the speed limit to the limit it believes reasonable and safe and cause notice of such speed limit to be designated by signs, one in each block, adjacent to the street line, of each street on which the speed limit is so fixed, and no driver of a vehicle shall violate such speed limitation. 10.16.030 Traffic signal regulation authority.

The chief of police is authorized to regulate the timing of traffic signals, when installed, so as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner. [Ord. 423 §24, 1970].

10.16.040 Maximum speed – Within city limits.

The maximum speed limit on all streets within the city limits is fixed at 25 miles per hour, except on primary state highways as hereinafter set forth, and except vehicles operated on an emergency mission. [Ord. 405 §2, 1967].

10.16.050 Maximum speed – Primary State Highways Nos. 27 and 272.

The maximum speed limit within the city, excepting vehicles operated on an emergency mission, is fixed as follows:

A. On State Route No. 27:

1. From the south corporate city limits, 25 miles per hour;

2. From the Cannon Street intersection with Division Street northerly to the north corporate city limits, a distance of 1,425 feet, 35 miles per hour;

3. All other portions of State Route 27 located within the city, 25 miles per hour.

B. On State Route No. 272:

1. From the intersection of 9th and “E” Street northerly along “E” Street to the northeast corporate city limits, a distance of 1,490 feet, 40 miles per hour;
