2.75.010 Definitions. Revised 10/17 Revised 3/18

The following words and phrases as used in this Chapter shall, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, have the meanings as follows:

"Pierce County Veterans Advisory Council" (PCVAC) is a nonprofit corporation of that name registered with the Washington State Secretary of State. (Ord. 2017-52 § 1 (part), 2017; Ord. 2016-89s § 3 (part), 2017)

Pursuant to RCW 73.08.035, there is created a Veterans Advisory Board for Pierce County which shall have such powers, duties, and responsibilities as provided by law. (Ord. 2017-52 § 1 (part), 2017; Ord. 2016-89s § 3 (part), 2017)

The Pierce County Veterans Advisory Board shall advise the County legislative authority on the needs of local indigent veterans, the resources available to local indigent veterans, and programs that could benefit the needs of local indigent veterans and their families. 2.75.040 Membership – Composition – Terms. Revised 10/17 Revised 3/18

A.    Members constituting the first iteration of the Pierce County Veterans Advisory Board shall be appointed by the County Executive from a list of two names for each open position provided by the Pierce County Veterans Advisory Council. Appointees shall be confirmed by a majority of the County Council by Resolution.

B.    The Board shall consist of eleven members, all of whom shall be veterans and a majority shall be members of a nationally recognized veterans service organization.

C.    The initial terms of Veterans Advisory Board members shall be as follows:

1.    Four members shall be appointed to 4-year terms;

2.    Three members shall be appointed to 3-year terms;

3.    Two members shall be appointed to a 2-year term; and

4.    Two members shall be appointed to a 1-year term.

    Thereafter, members shall be appointed by the Executive to 4-year terms, said appointments unconstrained by the list required at subsection A. of this Section, with Council confirmation to follow.

D.    Members shall be limited to two consecutive full terms.

E.    Members shall serve without compensation.

Vacancies occurring for any reason other than the expiration of a term of office shall be filled by appointment for the remainder of the unexpired term. (Ord. 2017-52 § 1 (part), 2017; Ord. 2016-89s § 3 (part), 2017)

The Board shall hold a minimum of four meetings per year. All meetings shall be open to the public and comply with the Open Public Meetings Act, Chapter 42.30 RCW. (Ord. 2017-52 § 1 (part), 2017; Ord. 2016-89s § 3 (part), 2017)

2.75.070 Removal from Office. Revised 10/17 Revised 3/18

The Executive may remove any appointed member of the Pierce County Veterans Advisory Board for inefficiency, neglect of duty, malfeasance, or three unexcused absences in one year, subject to confirmation by a majority of the Council. (Ord. 2017-52 § 1 (part), 2017; Ord. 2016-89s § 3 (part), 2017)
