10.09.010 Definitions.

For the purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases are defined as follows:

A. “Compression braking” means any motor vehicle brake that is operated by the compression of the engine of the motor vehicle or any unit or part thereof. In addition, “compression braking” includes the process of downshifting and releasing the clutch to utilize the motor vehicle’s engine to slow in order to meet proper speed restrictions.

B. “Motor vehicle” means automobiles, tractors, trucks, buses, and transportation equipment of all kinds and sizes, or any combination of the foregoing. (Ord. 2020-001 § 1)

10.09.020 Compression braking prohibited.

No person may use a compression braking system within the city of Sequim. Such prohibition does not apply if an emergency condition exists requiring the use of compression braking for the protection of persons and/or property. Emergency vehicles are exempt from this chapter. (Ord. 2020-001 § 1)

10.09.030 Penalty.

Violation of this chapter is a traffic infraction with a maximum penalty of $250.00 per violation. (Ord. 2020-001 § 1)

10.09.040 Posting.

The city engineer or designee is authorized and directed to post appropriate signs consistent with the provisions of this chapter. (Ord. 2020-001 § 1)
