7.12.010 Horses prohibited in city parks.

No owner or person in control of any horse, mule or other riding animal shall allow the animal to enter a city park. (Ord. 1297 § 1, 1990: Ord. 1128 § 1, 1984)

7.12.020 Horses prohibited on all community development property.

No owner or person in control of any horse, mule or other riding animal shall allow the animal to enter property owned by or under the control of the city of Shelton, including city streets and sidewalks.

This section shall not apply to animals contained within an enclosure being transported and animals participating in any authorized event. An authorized event is one which is deemed to be for the benefit of the general public which has been previously approved by the city manager or his designee. 7.12.030 Violation—Penalty.

A.    Any owner or custodian of a horse, mule or other riding animal violating any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars, or by imprisonment not to exceed one hundred eighty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

B.    Violations—Civil Penalty. In addition to or as an alternate to any other penalty provided in this chapter or by law, any person whose animal is maintained in violation of this chapter shall incur a civil penalty plus billable costs of the city of Shelton. The penalty for the first notice of violation shall be one hundred dollars and two hundred fifty dollars for each successive violation in any one-year period.
