ASSAULT—ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS

9.24.010 Provoking assault.

Every person who, by word, sign or gesture, willfully provokes, or attempts to provoke, another person to commit an assault, assault and battery, or breach of the peace is guilty of a misdemeanor. (Ord. 1725-0308 § 2 (part), 2008)

9.24.020 Mutual combat.

In a prosecution for assault under Section 9.02.010 and RCW 9A.36.041, it shall not be a defense that one or more of the participants in the assault provoked or consented to engage in mutual combat, unless such combat constitutes a regularly scheduled and sanctioned sporting event such as boxing, wrestling or the martial arts, where safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of physical injury.
