17.48.010 Intent.

The public zone is intended to provide areas for the variety of public uses which are required in a city such as parks, offices, community facilities, and schools. All publicly owned property is to be designated “public” unless otherwise zoned. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.020 Permitted uses.

The following are permitted in a P zone:

A. Chamber of Commerce offices.

B. City, state, or federal government offices.

C. Other public uses similar to those permitted by this section.

D. Public auditoriums.

E. Public libraries and museums.

F. Public parks.

G. Public schools.

H. Utility-related uses (i.e., treatment plants, pump houses, etc.) operated by a government agency. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.025 Conditional uses.

The following specific and generally described uses shall be permitted in the public zone as a conditional use subject to the approval of the planning commission in compliance with the provisions of this chapter and Chapter 17.51 SLMC entitled “Conditional and Unmentioned Uses.”

Dwelling units for a resident watchman, custodian, or attendant as an appurtenant use to the primary use of the following categories:

A. Employee of a municipality.

B. Employee of a state, county, or federal government.

C. Employee of a nonprofit corporation or quasi-public agency. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.030 Prohibited uses.

The following are prohibited in a P zone:

A. Any private use.

B. Public nuisances.

C. Locating containers formerly used for transporting sea-going cargo, railroad cars and cabooses, semi trailers when intended to be used as storage facilities, or any other unit which slides off a chassis or frame. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.040 Property development standards.

A. Setbacks shall be the same as for adjacent zones for all structures built above the ground.

B. There is no minimum lot size.

C. No structure shall be constructed over 40 feet high, without city council approval. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.050 Parking and loading.

Parking and loading areas shall be provided as shown in Chapter 17.54 SLMC. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.060 Signs and billboards.

Signs and billboards shall conform with Chapter 17.58 SLMC. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.070 Shoreline areas.

All property developed within 200 feet of the high water line of Soap Lake shall conform with the city’s shoreline management plan. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).

17.48.080 Landscaping.

Landscaping shall conform to Chapter 17.57 SLMC. (Ord. 1105 § 1, 2009).
