DOG LICENSES

6.04.010 License required.
The running at large of dogs within the city limits is prohibited unless the owners or keepers thereof shall procure a license for each dog as in this chapter provided. (Ord. 526 § 1, 1952)
6.04.020 License fees.
Dog license fees are classified according to whether or not a dog has been neutered or spayed.

All other dogs shall pay a license fee of ten dollars for an annual license. The license fee shall be for the calendar year, beginning January 1, 1998. Any licenses sold during the remainder of 1997 shall be sold at a pro-rated amount of one-half after June 1, 1997. (Ord. 1197 § 1, 1997: Ord. 681 § 1, 1970: Ord. 526 § 2, 1952)
6.04.030 Unlicensed dogs-Impoundment.
All dogs found running at large within the city limits without having a collar with an attached dog license tag, as required by the city, are declared to be public nuisances, and it shall be the duty of the chief of police, or such deputy as he may appoint for the purpose, to impound all such dogs and keep them in custody. Any such dogs not redeemed by the owners or keepers thereof within four days after they have been so impounded, by paying the sum of two dollars for impounding and two dollars a day, or a fraction thereof, for keeping them, shall be sold by the chief of police, or his deputy, at ten a.m. on the day succeeding the expiration of the fourth day of impound and, if no purchaser is found for the amount of the fee and expenses of keep, then the police chief and/or his deputy shall have the right to cause the destruction of such dog and cause it to be buried. In no event shall any such dog be delivered to the person redeeming it unless he shows that he has procured the necessary license tag. (Ord. 681 § 2, 1970: Ord. 526 § 3, 1952)
