TITLE, AUTHORITY, PURPOSE

* Prior history: The zoning ordinance previously codified as Title 15 of this code was amended in its entirety by Ordinance 1002. Said Title 15, including amendments thereto, consisted of the following ordinances: 704, 751, 752, 766, 805, 865, 922, 930, 961, 966, 981 and 986.
20.04.010 Title.
This title shall be known as the Sumas Zoning Ordinance, and may be so cited and pleaded. (Ord. 1002 (Attachment A) (part), 1989)
20.04.020 Authority.
The ordinance codified in this title is adopted pursuant to the provisions of RCW Chapter 35A.63 which empowers code cities to enact a zoning ordinance and to provide for the administration and enforcement thereof. (Ord. 1002 (Attachment A) (part), 1989)
20.04.030 Purpose.
The purpose of this title is to promote the goals of the comprehensive plan of the city and the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of the city by guiding both public and private development of land. The objective of this title is to promote a pleasant living environment for the citizens of Sumas by establishing reasonable standards for development which will both sustain opportunities for economic growth and preserve the quality of life of our community.
