2.68.010 Established.

Pursuant to authority conferred by Chapters 41.08 and 41.12 RCW, there is created a civil service commission to exercise the powers and perform the duties established by such laws in connection with the selection, appointment and employment of firemen and policemen, excluding the chiefs of such departments.

2.68.020 Composition.

A civil service commission shall be composed of three members, who shall be appointed by the mayor.

2.68.030 Powers and duties.

The commission, upon appointment, qualification and organization, shall hold meetings, adopt rules and regulations, and perform the duties and exercise the power granted it, all in compliance with Chapters 41.08 and 41.12 RCW, as now enacted or as may be hereafter amended.

2.68.040 Qualification of existing members of the fire and police departments.

All civil service personnel holding a position in the fire department or in the police department of the city in accordance with preexisting ordinances and administrative procedures are qualified in their civil service positions without examination or other act on their part.

2.68.050 Secretary/chief examiner.

The secretary/chief examiner authorized by RCW 41.08.040 and 41.12.040 shall be appointed by the commission from among qualified city employees selected and recommended by the mayor.
